CONDUIT FILL – SAME SIZE AND TYPE OF CONDUCTORS

When dealing with a conduit fill question, first determine if you have all the same size and type of conductors, if so use the appropriate TABLE 6A – 6K. The example below will guide you through this type of conduit fill question.

TABLES 6A-6K

• Use Tables 6A-6K when you have a question that asks for the maximum number of conductors of one size/type in trade sizes of conduit or tubing.

EXAMPLE QUESTION

What is the maximum amount of # 2 AWG 600V RW90 XLPE with jacket conductors you can fit into a 129 (5’) Rigid conduit?

ANSWER:

• The conductors are of the same size/type so we use one of the TABLES 6A-6K.
• Go to TABLES 6A-6K and find the appropriate table for the question , 600V RW90 XLPE with jacket.  In this example we find that TABLE 6C is the right one to use.
• In TABLE 6C Find the size of conductor (size, AWG or kcmil, left column), which is #2 AWG in our example.
• Now move across TABLE 6C until you hit the the column of the size of conduit/tubing in the question which is 129 (5′) conduit trade size.
• NOW, You have arrived at the number 50, this is the maximum number of conductors of this size and type that can fit in a 129 (5’) conduit or tubing.
